I love sushi, so when a new spot opens up in my area I’m always excited to give it a try. Truth be told I’m usually at the same time a little hesitant. When food is mediocre, I shrug it off as bad luck but still finish my meal. If sushi doesn’t taste great I start to question the freshness of the ingredients and become too paranoid to finish my roll. When trying a new sushi place, I’m comparing it to my favourite spots: Tenichi for AYCE, Kasa Moto for splurge sushi, and Tokyo Sushi for affordable sushi. Located just East of Yonge on Eglinton, Sushi Mori falls into the affordable category with most rolls ranging in price between 4-14 dollars. The rolls exceeded my expectations. After seeing the Dynamite roll and trying the first piece I was convinced they had brought me some other speciality roll by mistake. The crunchy salmon roll was also a big hit, just seeing this picture is making me crave it again already!

We had the Ebi Mayo as an appetizer and it was one of my favourite parts of the meal. The shrimp were huge and the blend of two sauces gave it just the right amount of kick without overpowering the shrimp.

The lunch bento boxes were generously served with soup, salad and an assortment of sides. Surprisingly I liked the chicken more than the beef which usually isn’t the case for teriyaki plates. The chicken was perfectly cooked; it was nice and tender.
Atmosphere wise, it’s great for a date night with comfy black leather booths and romantic lighting. At lunch there were plenty of babies and young children and no one seemed to mind our boisterous toddler. In fact she was treated to her own avocado roll topped with gold flakes. Do keep in mind that they have limited booster chairs and all were in use when we went; I recommend calling ahead to check for availability.
I do have to mention our server was not very familiar with the menu. The appetizer we ordered before anything else came after we were almost done with our mains. It also took almost twenty minutes to get the water we asked for and we had to remind our server twice. Nevertheless the food was delicious and reasonably priced and all of the staff was friendly and accommodating so I would definitely return. I just might have a new favourite spot for affordable sushi.

I almost forgot the standout Miso Soup! Usually nothing to write home about, this Miso Soup was exceptional with a nice depth of flavour. If it doesn’t come with your meal I recommend you add it on!

What are your favourite sushi spots in the city?

Oh my, this all looks so amazing. I’d be all over that. We have a good Japanese place here, but we haven’t teen in a while. I’m going to fix that.
Have a fabulous day. ♥

I love sushi!! I don’t usually eat it in a restaurant though. My local supermarket has an excellent sushi bar where it is made fresh in front of you and you can try all different varieties. Spicy salmon crunch roll is my favourite, with extra soy for dipping!! xx
