Visualization techniques are used by athletes to boost performance, business professionals to improve confidence, and by individuals wishing to increase their chances of success. For me, visualization techniques were the cure for my panic attacks.
If you’ve ever had a panic attack you know how awful they are, and that even after they pass you still don’t feel quite right hours later. I needed a way to stop them in their tracks.
The worst thing about panic attacks is that they can creep up on you even when you don’t think you’re especially stressed. They can leave you feeling helpless, forced to ride each wave of anxiety wherever it wishes to take you. When I felt a panic attack coming on, I wanted to have a way of feeling in control of the situation.
Insert the powerful technique of visualization.
Since effective visualization involves deep concentration and stimulation of multiple senses it’s the perfect way to shift your focus from anxious thoughts to a state of relaxation.
By literally escaping your surroundings and going somewhere new, visualization can mimic the relaxing effects of actually visiting your happy place. For me, that place is the beach.
In today’s Mindful Monday post I’m sharing one of my favourite visualizations, a journey I’ve taken myself on many times before. In less than five minutes you’ll feel rejuvenated. Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before, my short video will guide you through every step.
Just find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. press play, and close your eyes.
Take a trip to the beach with me and you’ll return home relaxed and ready to seize the day!
