Midtown is a great spot for your next coffee date, and I’m not just saying that because it’s my home turf. I love coffee. I’ve had coffee dates in all of Toronto’s biggest neighbourhoods and there are many things that set Yonge and Eglinton apart.
For starters, De Mello Palheta; it’s not just a cafe, De Mello is a roastery! Their coffee beans are served all over Toronto and for good reason. De Mello sources, imports, roasts and serves only the highest quality coffee and their blends are incredible. Sakura is one of my favourites with notes of cherry blossom, apricot and lemon. So after you enjoy a delicious coffee you can enjoy picking one out to take home from their huge selection. Not sure which one you’ll like best? Their staff is very knowledgeable and will be more than happy to help you find what is sure to be your new favourite coffee.
The atmosphere of the cafe is artsy and modern with a notable umbrella installation. They have many yummy treats including baked goods, lunch options, and fine chocolates. Their cheese croissant gets honourable mention but if you want the best of the best… you’ll have to head a few doors down.
If you’ve ever been to France you know their croissants are amazing. But did you know that you could find them in Toronto? I don’t mean prepared by a French baker.. I mean the actual dough flown in from France. That’s what sets Douce France apart. In France, they use non-enriched flour and top-quality butter which ensures their pastries are light, flaky, and delicious. You won’t be disappointed with any of their baked goods but I love their croissants and apple turnover. Also their imported marron glacĂ© (candied chestnuts) are scrumptious.
Now that you’ve enjoyed some of Toronto’s best coffee and baked goods I recommend heading over to the BMV, especially if you’re shopping for a little reader. Their children’s section is huge and the prices are unbeatable. Many of their children’s books, puzzles, and toys are brand new but are still heavily discounted.
You don’t want your coffee date to end? It doesn’t have to, you’re in Midtown afterall. With so many shops, the theatre, two board-game cafes, Alexander Muir Memorial Gardens, and endless restaurant and bar options in the area you have everything you need for the best coffee date ever!
